Archived Twitter Thread: “Get well soon” vs “I hope you get back to baseline soon”

This is an archive of my 07/23/2021 thread on the difference between “get well soon” and “I hope you’re back to baseline soon.” The thread can be viewed here.

Let’s to about the difference between “get well soon” and “I hope you’re back to baseline soon” when talking to those with chronic illness. A thread.

“Get well soon” demonstrates a belief that chronic illnesses go away and puts pressure on a disabled person to appear “better” next time.

“I hope you’re back to baseline soon” acknowledges that chronic illnesses are… well, chronic, affirms that being chronically ill is okay, and acknowledges that everyone has different baselines for pain + other symptoms.
